Rockin’ Country Blues to Richmond
22 February 2006
With their debut CD, Straight Up, the local duo - Steve Elliott and Lucie Walker – known as Rockin' Country Blues, charm fans and critics with their exciting Texas/Americana sound. They’ll be performing at Richmond’s Cultural Centre on Saturday, March 4, 2006.
With the tagline: ‘Passionate, all original, truckstop, jukebox, beer-swillin', Rockin' Country Blues songs about smoky dance-halls, 18-wheelers, burnin' love, and broken hearts!’, you know you are in for a treat!
Elliot and Walker have been wowing fans with their highly charged performances since 1999. Over the years, they have been performing regularly, touring Canada and opening for artists such as country star, Terri Clark. And their soulful harmonies have found their way onto the big screen, with nine songs in three feature films (Malcolm McDowell's ‘The Barber’, an independent feature, ‘Little Boy Blues’, and in 2005's ‘Rapid Fire’.)
Another song, ‘Tumblin' Down’, also from the CD, Straight Up, now has its own country line dance, choreographed by Michele Perron, and taught internationally (Canada, U.S., U.K. Australia).
The doors to their performance open at 7:30 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre, located at 7700 Minoru Gate, and the entertainment starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost is $6 in advance or $8 at the door, and admission is free for children under twelve. Tickets can be purchased at the Cultural Center at the front desk, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. and on the weekends, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
With a fan-base growing exponentially by word-of-mouth alone, these independent artists are prime examples of grassroots success based on good old fashioned talent, and outstanding, radio-friendly songs. Their second CD is in the works and promises to treat fans to a great collection of heartbreakers and barn burners worth writin' home about!
The Musical Expressions is an eclectic monthly showcase of local performers, hosted by well-known Richmond musician Cherelle Jardine. For more information, visit the website www.cherellejardine.com.
