Volunteers Saluted for Keeping Richmond Beautiful

08 June 2006

More than 1,300 volunteers and 67 groups who help keep Richmond beautiful will be recognized in a special event this weekend in the unique setting of the Terra Nova Rural Park.

The City of Richmond’s Parks Division is hosting the special event to recognize all of its Partners For Beautification volunteers and Park Partners. This event is an opportunity for the City to thank all of the community members, community organizations, and businesses that have adopted streets, trails, parks, gardens, and participated in other civic beautification activities.

Together, the Partners In Beautification have donated 15,000 hours of their own time to plant new trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants, look after existing plantings on City property, collect litter and generally help make Richmond a more appealing and livable community.

The event will take place at Terra Nova Rural Park (at the western most end of Westminster Highway) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This 63-acre site is Richmond's newest park and one of its largest. Although still under development, this event will showcase this unique site, built on heritage and nature, to the community for the first time.

The event will also feature the announcement of a special endowment fund for Terra Nova Rural Park by the Richmond Foundation.

The event will feature the following activities:

  • 10 a.m. - Reception
  • 10:15a.m. - Opening Remarks by Mayor Brodie, Richmond Foundation, and the Richmond Fruit Tree Sharing Project
  • 10:30 a.m. - Recognition of Partners
  • 11 a.m. - Barbecue lunch, live music, face painting and balloons, arts and crafts, guided garden tours and nature tours
