Information Boards prepared for presentation at the Open Houses are also now posted in the Planning and Zoning pages. Visit the Affordable Housing Strategy page and see the links at the bottom of the page as well as other links related to the background for this project.
Comment forms will be provided at the Open Houses and the form is also available on-line in the above mentionned page. Your concerns and suggestions for both topics are important and will be taken into consideration in finalizing the Affordable Housing Strategy and the development of options for the Secondary Suites Policy.
Affordable Housing Strategy
In February 2006, Richmond City Council passed a resolution to prepare an Affordable Housing Strategy. A draft strategy has been prepared and Council has requested that it now be presented to the public for comment.
Information presented will include a proposed definition of affordable housing, priority target groups for affordable housing, and what roles the City might play in working with the development community, non-profit housing providers, and other levels of government to provide affordable housing in Richmond.

Secondary Suites Policy
In September 2006, Richmond City Council passed a resolution directing City staff to prepare bylaw amendments and implementation options for the legalization of secondary suites. To further this effort, the City is seeking public feedback on the various policy options to make secondary suites legal.
Secondary suites are currently illegal in Richmond, except in special situations, such as coach house zones. Information will be presented on various options for the general legalization of secondary suites. Issues including the upgrading and legalization of existing suites to meet code requirements, the treatment of parking requirements, possible zoning limitations and neighbourhood impacts will be discussed.
