Advisory Committee on the Environment
The function of this 15-person committee is to advise City Council on environmental sustainability issues of concern to the public and follow-up actions to the City’s 2005 State of the Environment Report.
A wide range of experience among applicants is sought to create a broad base of perspectives and skills among committee members. As an example of the range of qualifications being considered; knowledge and/or interest in planning and development issues; air and water pollution; and education are among the areas of experience currently being sought, in addition to general knowledge of a variety of environmentally-related subject areas. Meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday evening of the month. A total of 10 positions and two alternate positions will be available for new candidates. These positions are for a two-year term expiring December 31, 2008.

Agricultural Advisory Committee
The role of the Committee is to: provide information, options and recommendations to Council on agricultural issues referred by Council; review development proposals that are in, or adjacent to, agricultural areas; assist Council and City Staff in implementing the Agricultural Viability Strategy; enhance public education and awareness of agricultural issues; and liaise with other levels of government to address agricultural viability issues.
One position is available to a Richmond resident who is a farming representative from the general agricultural community. The term of the appointment is two years, expiring December 31, 2008. Meetings are typically held on a monthly basis.

Aquatic Services Board
The mandate of this nine-member Board is to work with City staff to develop a policy framework for service standards, operating hours, fees and charges, scheduling and marketing of Richmond's four aquatic facilities. Board members represent the public interest in ensuring comprehensive and efficient aquatic services within the community. There are six vacancies on the Board, each for a two-year term ending December 31, 2008.
Meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every alternate month.

Board of Variance
The purpose of the Board is to hear appeals against the provisions of the Richmond Zoning & Development Bylaw in circumstances of hardship, usually in connection with the siting of buildings or additions in relation to the boundaries of property on which they are located.
The Board comprises of five people. The board meets at the call of the Chair in Richmond City Hall. Three positions are available for a three-year appointment.

Britannia Heritage Shipyard Advisory Board
The mandate of the Board is to represent the City’s interest in the development of the Britannia site in a manner consistent with the adopted business plan. The Board is accountable to City Council for their actions. Volunteers with an interest or background in industrial or maritime heritage, wooden boat building or marketing will be considered. Appointments are for a two-year term.
We are seeking to fill four positions from the community at large. The Board holds regular committee meetings, which are typically scheduled for the first Thursday evening of each month.

Child Care Development Advisory Committee
The Committee is an Advisory Committee to Council whose mission is to advise Council regarding the planning, development, support and promotion of a range of quality, affordable and accessible child care in the City of Richmond.
Volunteers with a demonstrated interest and commitment to child care development in Richmond, and who represent the diversity of the community, are encouraged to apply. Meetings are typically held on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Eleven positions are available for a two-year term ending December 31, 2008.

Economic Advisory Committee
The mandate of the Committee is to advise Council on economic development strategic initiatives and on ways to enhance and manage City resources to strengthen Richmond’s economy.
Candidates will be chosen to reflect a broad spectrum of industry sectors which may include: transportation and distribution, development, manufacturing and industry, technology and communication, commercial and retail, agriculture, fishing and food processing, tourism and arts and culture, education, airport, and port business. Appointments are for a two-year term.

Family Court Committee
The mandate of this Committee is to consider and examine resources available in the community for family and children’s matters. They also make recommendations to City Council, the Attorney General, and others, when required. This Committee will appeal to those who have a general interest in law, community family and children’s matters; have experience in the fields of education, health, probation, or human resources; or are a representative of the Richmond business community.
This is a one year commitment. The successful candidate must be available to attend a Committee meeting at Richmond City Hall one Wednesday evening per month, with additional availability on weekdays to attend court as an observer at least twice a month.

Gateway Theatre Society Board
The Society is responsible for the operations of the Gateway Theatre facility, providing professionally managed programs for the community in the performing arts including Live, Professional theatre productions, an Academy for youth, a Volunteer program, a Rentals program and an Outreach and Satellite Company program. Volunteers with a passion for theatre and corporate links to the community are encouraged to apply.
The Board meets monthly. Board members are required to participate with one committee, which meets monthly. There are events and committee activities which may require additional time during peak periods. Board Members are required to be members of the Society and subscribers. The term of appointment is two years.

Heritage Commission
The mandate of the Commission is to make recommendations to Council on heritage issues, as well as to sponsor heritage awareness programs and activities. Volunteers with a general interest in heritage issues will be considered, as well as individuals having a background in architecture, local history, planning and archaeology. Four positions are available.

Intercultural Advisory Committee
The mandate of the Committee is to enhance intercultural harmony and strengthen intercultural co-operation in Richmond. It advises City Council regarding intercultural issues and opportunities and responds to intercultural issues referred by Council or the community.
Volunteers with a demonstrated interest and commitment to improving intercultural harmony in Richmond, and who represent the diversity of the community, are encouraged to apply. Meetings are typically held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Four positions are available for a two-year term ending December 31, 2008. Two of these positions are reserved for youth representatives, age 30 and under.

Museum Society Board
The mandate of the Board is to provide advice, expertise and community input and to make recommendations to City Council on the operation and policy planning of the Richmond Museum. The Museum Board interacts with other historical groups and societies on museum services and heritage issues. Volunteers with a general interest in local history, education and heritage will be considered. Two positions are available for new candidates.

Parking Advisory Committee
The mandate of the Committee is to provide the City with input into the planning and management of parking city-wide to ensure that valuable urban space is utilized in the most efficient manner. We are seeking Committee members to fill vacancies in the following categories: retail centres/merchants (up to one member for a two-year term), and Richmond resident/employee (four members for a two-year term each).

Public Art Commission
The function of the Commission is to provide direction and advise City Council on the management and implementation of the Richmond Public Art Program.
Members of the Commission may include artists, professional art consultants (designers, gallery directors, curators, educators or conservators), urban design professionals (architects, landscape architects, planners, urban designers, engineers or developers), and citizens who are interested in public access to the arts.
Meetings will typically be held once a month. Four positions are available for a two-year term.

Public Library Board
This is a governance board established under the B.C. Library Act and is responsible for the provision of library services in Richmond. Citizens who have had some level of community involvement and a general interest in this field are encouraged to apply.
Information packages are available at all branches of the Richmond Public Library describing this excellent opportunity to serve your community. The term of appointment is two years, and we are seeking to fill three positions from the community at large.

Richmond Community Services Advisory Committee
The mission of the Committee is to encourage and promote those social policies and community services which contribute to the general health, welfare and quality of life of the residents of Richmond, and to increase inter-agency relations and cooperation in order to enhance community capacity.
Volunteers with an interest in social policies and community services are encouraged to apply. Meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. Two citizen-at-large positions are available for a two-year term ending December 31, 2008.

Seniors Advisory Committee
The Committee considers and evaluates issues referred to it by City Council, City staff and members of the community. It initiates studies on matters of concern to seniors and will submit information, options and recommendations to City Council. It also receives input from individuals and groups, and makes recommendations to the appropriate bodies.
Volunteers with a demonstrated relevant interest in the mandate of this committee are encouraged to apply. Meetings are typically held on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Seven positions are available for a two-year term ending December 31, 2008.

Sister City Committee
The mandate of the Committee is to enhance friendship and mutual understanding, foster cultural exchanges, student and athletic exchanges and foster trade and other economic linkages. Council has approved the twinning of Richmond with the following cities: Pierrefonds, Quebec and Wakayama, Japan, and to explore a friendship relationship with a city in China.
This is an excellent opportunity for committed individuals to serve the community by becoming involved in international relationships and activities. The Committee is comprised of 12 members appointed by Council for a term of three years. Six positions are available to be filled.

Spirit of BC Richmond Community Committee
This Committee was established to ensure that Richmond capitalizes on the opportunities arising from the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The mission of this Committee is to ensure the Richmond community is positively impacted by the optimism, opportunity and excitement of the Games by encouraging people to actively participate in community and economic development by supporting and promoting events and activities resulting in a lasting legacy.
This is an exciting opportunity and interested, motivated, community–minded volunteers are invited to apply to participate. The term of appointment will be two years, to expire on December 31, 2008.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) Environmental Advisory Committee
The purpose of this Committee is to provide input to the Vancouver International Airport Authority (YVRAA) on its environmental management program. Key Committee responsibilities also include providing a forum for liaison between YVRAA and its community stakeholders and reviewing the ongoing implementation of the environmental commitments associated with the Sea Island Conservation Area.
Regular committee meetings are held quarterly during the day. Appointees also become members of City Council’s Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE) and are required to report to ACE on a regular basis. ACE holds monthly meetings which are typically scheduled for the third Wednesday evening of each month. One position and one alternate position is available for a two-year term expiring December 31, 2008.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) Aeronautical Noise Management Committee
The Noise Management Committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing all aspects of the airport’s noise management program and with making recommendations to airport management for the development of airport noise policy and procedures. Regular committee meetings are held quarterly during the day, normally in the middle of the month.
Appointees also become members of City Council’s Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE) and are required to report to ACE on a regular basis. ACE holds monthly meetings which are typically scheduled for the third Wednesday evening of each month. One position and one alternate position is available for a two-year term expiring December 31, 2008.
