Richmond Council Expresses Outrage over RAV Decision

24 June 2004

Richmond City Council has voted to strongly urge the provincial government to take over the Richmond Airport Vancouver (RAV) and Northeast Sector (NES) rapid transit projects, unless TransLink makes an immediate commitment to proceed to the Best and Final Offer (BAFO) stage on RAV.

In a special meeting held June 23, Council also voted to express its outrage at TransLinks June 18 decision in which the board voted to refuse the provinces offer to take over RAV construction and contribute $170 million to the development of the NES rapid transit line, while also voting not to send the RAV project to the BAFO stage.

In addition, the RAV resolution, which was moved by Coun. Rob Howard, called on other municipal councils through the region and province to express their outrage in the TransLink Board votes, as their communities will be negatively impacted by these TransLink decisions.
