City Wins Provincial Website Award Again
11 October 2005
The City of Richmond has again been honoured for its outstanding website by the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM).
Richmond tied with the City of Duncan as the winners of this year’s Best Practices, Website Category in the annual UBCM Community Excellence Awards. The Community Excellence Award winners were announced at the recent UBCM convention in Vancouver and Richmond’s award was formally presented to the Mayor and Councillors at the October 11, 2005 Council meeting.
This is an unprecedented third time that Richmond has received the UBCM’s award for local government websites in BC. Richmond previously was honoured in 2000 and 2001.
“In today’s wired world our website has become one of the most critical tools in communicating with stakeholders,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The City has worked hard to ensure that our website is continually evolving and improving and we’re pleased that those efforts continue to be recognized by our peers in local government.”
The award follows a major re-design and re-launch of Richmond’s website, which was completed in late 2004. The new site design is more user friendly with improved navigation features and popular content made easier to find.
Other new innovations incorporated into the site, include the new parks database which was designed to provide detailed and easily updated, searchable content for the website will also serve the operational needs of the Parks Department. The launch of the new website also marks the official introduction of a new, shorter, and easier to remember, website address: www.richmond.ca
The new site was developed after extensive consultation with internal and external user groups and was completed with the assistance of website design consultants from Graphically Speaking.
