Voting Assistance Offered in Civic Election

The City of Richmond will hold a General Local and School Election on Saturday, November 19, 2005 for the position of Mayor and eight Councillors for the City of Richmond, and seven School Trustee positions for the Richmond School District. There are a number of election procedures available to voters with special circumstances, both on and prior to the General Voting Day.
If you require physical assistance at the Voting Place you may bring one person with you to assist you in the voting booth. Curbside voting is available for those who can drive to their Voting Place, but are physically unable to enter the Voting Place. Voting by mail ballot is also available, but only for those who have a physical disability, illness or injury which affects their ability to vote by other means.
If you require translation assistance at the Voting Place you may bring one person with you to assist you in the voting booth. In addition, the City brochure “ How to exercise your right to vote”, which has extensive information on voter eligibility, registration and voting, has been translated into Chinese, Punjabi and French and is now available on the City website at www.richmond.ca , or upon request from the City Election Office.
In addition, there are number of opportunities for those unable to vote on the General Voting Day. Advance voting for the election will be held at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road, Richmond, on the following dates and times:
Wednesday November 9, 2005 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday November 10, 2005 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday November 12, 2005 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday November 16, 2005 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Advance voting is only available for voters who meet one of several criteria. To determine if you are eligible for advance voting, or for other information on voting assistance, contact or visit the City Election Office, Richmond City Hall, at 604-276-4100, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays, (excluding statutory holidays). Please stop at the Main Floor Information Counter for directions to the Election Office.
