Sign Bylaw to be Enforced

24 November 2005

Due to an increase in the number of illegally placed signs on City property, the City will be taking more direct action to ensure public safety and community livability.

Business owners are reminded that the City’s Sign Bylaw 5560 restricts the placement of sandwich board-style and other signs on sidewalks or other City property. These restrictions protect the public from hazards and nuisances arising from improperly sited signs, as well as protect the appearance of our city.

City staff will be enforcing the regular “Sign Scoop” program.  This means City Bylaw Officers will pickup illegally placed signs found on City boulevards, sidewalks or roadways and issue a one-time warning to persons or companies responsible for these infractions.  Offences by companies or individuals that have been previously warned may result in a ticket being issued.

The City’s Bylaw Department can be contacted at 604-276-4345 during regular business hours Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. regarding the sign bylaw regulations.
