Sidewalk Signs Pose Hazards

Sign Bylaw to be Enforced
Due to an increase in the number of improperly placed signs on City property, the City will be taking more direct action to ensure public safety and community liveability.
Business owners are reminded that the City Sign Bylaw 5660 restricts the placement of sandwich board-style and other signs on sidewalks or other City property.
City staff will be instituting a “Sign Scoop” procedure. This means Bylaw Officers will pickup illegally placed signs found on City boulevards, sidewalks or roadways and issue a one-time warning to persons or companies responsible for this action. Future offences by companies or individuals that have been warned may result in a ticket being issued. Any signs removed by the City will be stored at the Works Yard and may be picked up during regular business hours Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the dispatch office.
For more information on bylaw regulations pertaining to signs call the City’s Bylaw Department at 604-276-4345.
