Family Fun on Tap at Works Yard Open House

Face PaintingKids of all ages are invited to join the fun-filled family celebration of National Public Works Week at the City’s Operations Yard Open House on Saturday, May 14, 2005. 

Learn about how water gets to your tap with Project WET, learn about the Fire Safety House, enjoy having your face painted, visit the Children’s Play Area, and more. Shake hands with the clowns, and join the City for an exciting day of family activities, entertainment and refreshments. Kids age 5 and under will receive also a free hot dog and pop, organized in part by the Boomers Team of the Richmond Girls Softball Association. Clip the coupon found in this weeks or last weekend’s Richmond News and Richmond Review newspaper advertisements for the event.

The City’s heavy equipment will be in action, where kids can enjoy hands-on learning of the operation of excavators, dump trucks, remote control equipment, and more. Richmond Fire-Rescue crews and the RCMP will demonstrate high-tech tools and equipment used for keeping our community safe. Block Watch, emergency preparedness, Power Smart and Parks information, demonstrations and displays will be at the event.

“This community event is not only important to showcase the essential services we provide, but it also provides another forum to connect with our community,” says Greg Scott, Director of Operations. “Each year builds on the last, and our staff have planned yet another informative and interactive event for the community to enjoy this weekend.”

The Public Works Open House runs from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at the City Operations Yard, 5599 Lynas Lane, and is presented by the City’s Engineering and Public Works Division, in collaboration with the Parks Department and community safety staff.

“This Open House is our community celebration of National Public Works Week, ” says Jeff Day, General Manager of Engineering and Public Works. “This is an opportunity to publicly acknowledge our operations staff who provide and maintain our infrastructure and services, and draws attention to the importance of public works in community life.”

National public works week runs from May 15 to 21, 2005, which celebrates the tens of thousands of men and women in North America in the Public Works profession.
