Nominations Open for Richmond Civic Election

The City of Richmond will be holding a General Local and School Election on Saturday, November 19, 2005 for the position of Mayor and eight Councillors for the City of Richmond, and seven School Trustee positions for the Richmond School District.
 
Nomination documents, together with an information package on the requirements for becoming a candidate for a position on City Council or the School Board, are now available from the Election Office at Richmond City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weekdays. Please stop at the Main Floor Information Counter for directions to the Election Office.

Nominations for candidates for the offices of Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee will be received by the Chief Election Officer at the Richmond City Hall Election Office, 6911 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2005. Nominations will be accepted weekdays, except for statutory holidays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through Thursday, October 13, 2005 and from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2005. No nominations will be accepted after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2005.

Meanwhile, advance elector registration for the 2005 Election is continuing. Eligible electors are urged to ensure that they are registered to vote, that their name is shown correctly and that their address is current.  In order to qualify as a resident elector, you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen
  • 18 years of age on election day
  • Resident of BC for 6 months
  • Resident of Richmond for 30 days
  • You must not be disqualified by law from voting
