Construction Manager Chosen for Richmond Oval

June 28, 2005

Dominion Fairmile Construction Ltd. has been selected to provide construction management services for the Richmond Oval, home of the long track speed skating competition for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Richmond City Council announced the contract award at its regular meeting on June 27, 2005.

Dominion’s primary role will be to advise the City on constructability issues and assume the lead role in procuring and managing subtrade contracts as well as daily construction activities, schedule and budgets. Active in construction for more than 90 years, Dominion is one of BC’s best known and largest construction companies. It’s lengthy project history includes building the award-winning Richmond City Hall.

Dominion was selected from three short-listed candidates following an open national public call for expressions of interest. The selection was endorsed by VANOC and the City’s Oval Building Advisory Committee. The value of the contract is $7.3 million, plus reimbursable expenses.

Scheduled to open in 2008, the Richmond Oval will be home of the long track speed skating venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Post-Games, the Oval will become BC’s premier multi-purpose sports, recreation and community facility. The project also includes creation of a major new City Centre park and plaza surrounding the Oval and a new City Centre neighborhood along the banks of the Fraser River.
