City Launches “Getting Richmond Moving” Campaign
June 24, 2005
Richmond residents will enjoy more opportunities to get active and learn about the benefits of living healthy lifestyles with the launch of the City’s “Getting Richmond Moving” campaign at Westwind Elementary School’s Sports Day on Friday, June 24, 2005.
Children, parents, City Councillors, School Trustees, Action Schools and others participated in the launch of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Division’s “Getting Richmond Moving” initiative. This initiative supports the City’s commitment to increase physical activity by 20 per cent by 2010, and is aimed at working towards:
- connecting the community to active living and healthy lifestyles;
- building bridges to remove barriers to an active lifestyle; and
- engaging the community to become healthy role models.
This summer, a physical activity component will be implemented into all civic recreation and cultural programs, including art, science and music classes. Families can also engage in getting active by participating in the “Family Challenge Passport.” Passports and the “50 Ways to Get Moving” list are available at all civic facilities and on the City’ web site at:

It’s surprising how little time it takes to stay healthy and active, and this Passport can get you on your way – challenge yourself!
Some ideas to increase your physical activity level include: Look for “Getting Richmond Moving” this summer and get active! All it takes is 30 minutes a day of moderate physical activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Healthy mind…healthy body.
