Richmond Offers Five Free Halloween Fireworks Shows

Richmond residents are encouraged to have a happy and safe Halloween by attending one of five community fireworks celebrations in the city this year, as an alternative to private use of fireworks, which is now restricted.
A new Fireworks Regulation Bylaw 7917 is now in effect in Richmond and prohibits the possession, sale, purchase or ignition of any fireworks, of any kind, at any time in the City of Richmond, except by special permit.
Permits will not be issued to the general public for backyard, cul-de-sac, or other similar displays. Instead, residents who wish to enjoy fireworks this Halloween are encouraged to attend one of the five local professional fireworks displays at the following locations and times. All shows are on Monday, October 31:

Entertainment: Live DJ, clowns, face-painting, balloon-twisters, arts and crafts, and fire juggling
Fireworks get underway at 8:15 p.m.

Fireworks permits may only be issued to Fireworks Supervisors or Pyrotechnicians certified by the Explosives Regulatory Branch of Natural Resources Canada. For more information on the fireworks shows or other Halloween events call (604) 276-4300.
Community Bylaws will be actively enforcing the new bylaw. Persons found to be selling, igniting, or in possession of fireworks are subject to the fines of $1,000 under the new bylaw. For more information call Richmond Fire Rescue at (604) 278-5131.
