Final Week of Asian Heritage Month Celebration

The public is invited to join the final week of exciting activities featured as part of Richmond’s month-long celebration of Asian Heritage Month at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate.

On Tuesday May 24, organized by the Richmond Art Gallery join us for the Asian Heritage Month Film Series.Titles include “Tribe of One,” from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., “Cosmic Current” from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., “Bollywood Bound.” from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and “Bhopal: The Search for Justice,” from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free for all shows.

On Thursday May 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., organized by the Richmond Public Library, experience the Taiwanese Cultural Night, which is a free event.

On Saturday May 28 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., experience the Classical Arts of India, which is an evening to raise funds in aid of tsunami relief. Tickets for adults are $15, seniors and students are $10 and children under the age of 5 are free.

On Sunday May 29 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., enjoy a variety of short performances involving local Asian performers: the Goan Association, Poetry reading by Carol Landingin, performances by the Jewish Community Centre’s Shalom Dancers, the Chinese Senior Dance Group and the Richmond Chinese Folk Dancers. There will also be a demonstration and display of Japanese Ikebana-flower arranging by Mrs. Sumida. These performances are also free to the public.

Exhibitions still on display are: Place/Displace: Three Generations of Taiwanese Art until June 2 in the Richmond Art Gallery, Collecting Culture: Chinese Tobacco Art: Collection of Mr. Li De Sheng until May 31 in the Cultural Centre Upper Rotunda and an exhibition of paintings by Ming Yeung until June 28 at Richmond City Hall.
