IOC President Visits Richmond

The City of Richmond is encouraged by the confidence expressed in its planning for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games by IOC President Jacques Rogge.

“Richmond Council and our city staff were inspired by the support we received this week from Jacques Rogge,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Richmond is passionate about participating in the Games and it is encouraging to have our commitment recognized at the highest level of the Olympic movement. It reinforces our belief that we are on track to deliver a great Olympic venue and create an outstanding legacy for our community and for 2010.”

Richmond will be home of the long-track speed skating venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. President Rogge visited Richmond on February 2 to meet with City officials and learn more about the City’s plans for Richmond Oval, and a progress report on the project.
