City Receives Second Consecutive Financial Reporting Award

The City of Richmond received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for its annual financial report for the second consecutive year.

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program, established by the Government Financial Officers Association of North America, encourages municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports, and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. The depth of financial reporting detail is extensive with over sixteen pages of specific criteria required for the award submission. Achieving this award for the second consecutive year represents a significant accomplishment for the City and its management.

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the City of Richmond and the staff team responsible for preparing the 2003 award-winning report. Further, this report was efficiently produced, printed and bound exclusively by City staff without using out-of-house resources.

“This award reflects the City’s due diligence in our financial reporting, and is clearly the result of high-quality work performed by our staff,” says Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This significant accomplishment for the second consecutive year demonstrates our commitment to remain a leader in municipal annual reporting.”

The annual financial report was judged by the impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to communicate the municipality’s financials and to encourage users and user groups to read the report.
