City Recognizes Winners of 2005 Street Banner Program
01 March 2005
Richmond City Council recognized the six winners of the 2005 Richmond Street Banner Program at Monday’s Council meeting.
In the fall of 2004, the community was encouraged to come up with bold, colorful and creative designs that "Celebrate Neighbourhoods in Richmond." A panel of volunteer judges had the very difficult task of selecting six winning banners from over 300 submissions.
“This program provides a great opportunity for the Richmond community to engage in the beautification of our community,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The creativity and diversity of the submissions from over 300 entrants not only demonstrates the success of this annual program, but the pride of those celebrating their neighbourhoods in Richmond.”
The winners included:
- Ariel Fan, titled “People and Mountains”
- Pieter Dekkers, titled “Staying Connected”
- Gillian Partridge, titled “Neighbourhood School”
- Henna Mahl, titled “My House”
- Dan Vy Vo, titled “Evening in Richmond”
- Stephanie Chan, titled “Blue Sun and Houses”
Watch for these colorful new banners to be installed throughout Richmond's City Centre streets starting in March 2005, which will remain on display until March 2006. Winners will receive a small honorarium for their design, and a full-size banner, which will proudly be displayed along Richmond’s gateways.
The City of Richmond would like to thank all those who participated, including the volunteer judges, in the success of this program. For more information, visit the Parks & Recreation section of our web site.
