Richmond Council Appoints Oval Advisory Committees

The City of Richmond has announced the appointment of three advisory committees that will provide City Council with advice on development of the Richmond Oval, home of the long track speed skating competition for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The following appointments were made to the Richmond 2010 Olympic Oval Project Steering Committee: Ron Adams, Larry Berg, Wayne Duzita, Vic Farmer, Bob Laurie, Terry McPhail, Wayne Nygren, Kush Panatch, Bruce Rozenhart, Grace Soo, Peter Webster and Julianna Yung. Milan Ilich has been appointed as honorary chair of the steering committee. The City of Richmond’s Chief Adminstrative Officer George Duncan will also be a member of the committee. Council Liaisons to the Steering Committee are Coun. Bill McNulty and Coun. Harold Steves.
Appointed as members of the Richmond 2010 Olympic Oval Project Building Committee are: Kathleen Beaumont, Nelson Chan, Bob Cowan, Derek Hodgkinson, Rick Ilich, Tim Loo, Peter Lutzmann, John Peddle, David Thom and Richard Yoneda. Council Liaisons will be Coun. Evelina Halsey-Brandt and Coun. Rob Howard.
The following appointments were made to the Richmond 2010 Olympic Oval Stakeholder/User Committee: Bonnie Beaman, Frank Claassen, Denise Coutts, Sal Ferreras, Sean Graham, Lyn Greenhill, Lawrie Johns, Jim Lamond, Dr. James Lu, Maria Malewska-Mjablat, Barbara Mogan, Cheryl Taunton and Keith Whittle. Council Liaisons will Coun. Linda Barnes and Coun. Derek Dang.
Mayor Malcolm Brodie will be an ex-officio member of all three committees.
The three advisory committees will help determine the general direction, design and construction and post-Games operation and use of the Oval.
The Richmond Oval will be BC’s premier multi-purpose sports, recreation and wellness facility. The project also includes a major new City Centre park and plaza surrounding the Oval on a prominent waterfront site, which is located along the banks of the Fraser River.More information:
