Home Rentals
Property owners wishing to rent their homes to Games’ visitors should contact Tourism Richmond. The City is not involved in a home rental program. Property owners should ensure they meet all bylaw regulations around rental of properties.
Host Family Program
The Host Family Program was established to support Canadian speed skating athletes and their families by finding appropriate Richmond homes to host parents and coaches during the Games. The program is coordinated by the community.

Olympic Youth Awareness
The Richmond Olympic Business Office teamed with the Richmond School Board to increase student knowledge of the Olympic movement and the countries that participate leading up to the 2010 Winter Games.
Activities included skating trips to the Oval, participation in VANOC’s online education program (/EDU), links with schools in other winter sport countries and opportunities for student musicians and artists to participate in Olympic related events.
The Oval Kids School Program
This extraordinary opportunity provided all Richmond schools with an in-depth experience at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Students received a personal tour of the incredible Oval facility, along with information on sustainability features, public art, programs and services and other interesting facts. Each tour was then able to skate on the 400-metre Oval track.
Other schools in the Lower Mainland also took the opportunity to tour the facility, as well as attend the Canadian national speedskating trials in October.
Speed Skating Canada Community Tour
Speed Skating Canada and the Richmond Spirit of BC committee organized a community tour featuring Canada’s top speed skaters in the many months leading up to the Games and in between training and competition.
The tour offered an opportunity for Richmond residents to learn about speed skating, and get to know our Olympic athletes, while supporting the athletes themselves.
2010 Information and Volunteer Centre
The 2010 Community Information Centre serves as a 2010 information and communication centre for Richmond residents and others, as well as a clearing house for information about community services and special events. Located in Richmond Centre mall, the Centre is a focal point for bringing people and volunteer opportunities together in Richmond and for the initial recruitment and screening of volunteers beyond March 2010.
The 2010 Information and Volunteer Program will lead to the creation of hundreds of trained and experienced event volunteers who will form the foundation for volunteer support for community events and programs for years to come. More than 1,300 residents volunteered to work for the City during the Games period, showing an outstanding level of support for the Games and the community.
