Getting to the O Zone

O Zone The Richmond O Zone is the biggest celebration of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, amassed over 60 acres in the heart of Richmond City Centre, just minutes from the new Canada Line, from Richmond City Hall (6911 No. 3 Road at Granville Avenue) into Minoru Park (7191 Granville Avenue at Minoru). Getting to the O Zone is no problem. Just hop on a bus, a bike, or hop on over on foot. 

Rapid Transit
Take the Canada Line to Richmond-Brighouse Station and walk 10 minutes south on No. 3 Road to Richmond City Hall and the East Gate. The route will be well marked and the O Zone entrance at City Hall will be clearly visible. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. See Translink 2010 Map.

Buses Serving the O Zone
Within Richmond: 

  • 401 or C96 to No. 3 Road/Saba Road
  • 402, 403 or 404 to No. 3 Road/Granville Avenue
  • 405 or 407 to No. 3 Road/Cook Road
  • 410 to Granville Avenue/Minoru Boulevard

From the Richmond Olympic Oval: Take the C94 shuttle to Richmond-Brighouse Station. Or take the City shuttle, which operates a half hour before and 1.5 hours after events at the Oval are concluded. Pick up the shuttle on the north side of Lansdowne Road, between Hollybridge Way and Gilbert Road. 

From Burnaby: Take bus 430 to Richmond-Brighouse Station.

From North Delta/Surrey: Take bus 301 to No. 3 Road/Saba Road.

From Ladner: Take bus 404 to No. 3 Road/Granville Ave.

From South Surrey/White Rock: Take bus 351 or 354 to Bridgeport Station, then the Canada Line to Richmond-Brighouse Station.

From Tsawwassen: Take bus 601 to Bridgeport Station, then the Canada Line to Richmond-Brighouse Station.

By Bike
Bicycle is the perfect way to travel to the Richmond O Zone. Additional bike racks will be located in the Gateway Theatre parking lot and the northwest corner of the RCMP parking lot. Be sure to wear a helmet at all times—it’s the law—and wear reflective clothing and use a light when travelling by bicycle at night.

Some bicycle lanes and shared vehicle lanes are designated for drop off zones and temporary parking. Please check the transportation map.

On Foot
The Richmond O Zone is amassed over 60 acres between the Civic Precinct (Richmond City Hall) through the Richmond Cultural Centre and into Minoru Park.

Public gates are located:

  • No. 3 Road at City Hall entrance
  • Granville Avenue by Minoru Gate
  • Minoru Boulevard by the entrance to the Cultural Centre
  • Gilbert Road by Gateway Theatre

From the Oval: the Richmond O Zone is a 15-minute walk down Hollybridge Way, Elmbridge Way and Gilbert Road to the Gilbert Road (west) gate. Traffic control personnel and wayfinding signs will help Oval spectators make their way to the O Zone after competition is over. 

Driving & Drop Off
There is no parking for the general public at the Richmond O Zone.

A limited number of designated parking spaces for vehicles displaying a valid SPARC card are available for O Zone visitors behind the Minoru Aquatic Centre on a first-come, first-served basis. The parking lot can be accessed from Granville Ave westbound at Minoru Gate.

Drop off zones are designated for general public, commercial vehicles (taxis/limos) and tour buses.

  • Minoru Boulevard, from crosswalk north of Minoru Gate to The Bay entrance (southbound curb lane): 3-minute passenger zones, 24/7, February 8 - 28, 2010
  • Gilbert Road, from Gateway Theatre to entrance to Tennis Courts (northbound curb lane): 3-minute passenger zones, 24/7, February 8 - 28, 2010
  • Granville Avenue, from Minoru Boulevard to Gilbert Road (westbound bike lane): 3-minute passenger zones, 24/7, February 8 - 28, 2010
  • Granville Avenue, from No. 3 Road to Minoru Boulevard (westbound bike lane): 3-minute passenger zones, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m, February 1 - March 7, 2010
  • Anderson Road, from No. 3 Road to Buswell Street (westbound curb lane): 3 minute passenger zones, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m, February 1 - March 7, 2010

Olympic Torch Relay - February 9
The Olympic Torch makes it way to the Richmond O Zone for the Community Celebration in the late afternoon of February 9, 2010, necessitating some road and lane closures:

  • Granville Avenue, the westbound lane from No. 3 Road to Gilbert Road will be closed from 6:00 - 11:00 p.m.
  • Minoru Boulevard from Granville Avenue to Minoru Gate will be closed from 6:00 - 11:00 p.m.
