Know Before You Go
While Richmond's transportation network will not be significantly impacted by Olympic specific traffic, travellers to and around the island city should plan ahead, give themselves extra time to reach their destination, and choose alternative transportation to the single occupant vehicle during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, February 12 through 28.
The 2010 Winter Games Integrated Transportation Plan, mapping how residents, businesses, and visitors will move around Metro Vancouver and the Sea to Sky corridor during the Games, relies heavily on public transit use and alternate modes of transportation (such as cycling or walking), advising everyone to "know before you go."
Games time travel information is available on www.travelsmart2010.ca. As well, detailed information is available in the Spectator Guide, now published and downloadable from www.vancouver2010.com.
The Richmond Games Time Transportation Plan, developed in conjunction with Games partners such as the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC), Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (VISU), and TransLink, is based on the city's core value of sustainable mobility and the goal of a transit- and pedestrian-oriented city centre. It is designed for flexibility and responsiveness and supports a sustainable Games, focusing on alternative modes of transportation: public transit, rideshare or carpooling, walking, and cycling.
There are no restrictions to bridges leading to and from Richmond.
