The Richmond Museum offers exciting and engaging learning resources for teachers and educators to help learning come alive! From education kits that can be used in the classroom to field trips that takes learning into the Richmond community, the Richmond Museum is dedicated to inspiring learning for all ages.Download the latest brochure here:
Field Trips
Cost: $4 per student (minimum charge of $80)
Take learning out of the classroom and into the Richmond community! Enjoy interactive and curriculum-based activities that promote critical thinking and creativity. All programs are 90 minutes in length.
Food For Thought: Life at London Farm

Explore pioneer life through the London family. Collect eggs and water, play farmer jeopardy and examine what soil produce the best crops. Students leave with a special souvenir to take home.

Life in Sutebusuton

Explore life for Japanese Canadians in the early 1900s in Richmond through the Murakami family. Meet all 12 members of the family, explore the house they lived in, analyze objects that tell stories of their work and play, and play a popular Japanese game.

Let's Celebrate Winter!

Experience the magic of the holiday season by learning how different cultures celebrate winter, playing games unique to this season and making a special winter craft to take home.

Cost: $45 for a 3 week loan. Bring the museum into your classroom. These curriculum-based kits are filled with artefacts and activities for use in your classroom. Materials are adaptable for all ages and levels of English unless otherwise specified.

Suitability: Grades 2-7
Promote historical thinking while learning about communications technology. Operate a rotary phone, make your own semaphore flags, analyze media advertisements from the past and more.
From Far and Wide: The Richmond Mosaic

Suitability: Grades 1-7, ESL
Over 200 toys, games, clothing and other objects help tell the story of Richmond's diversity. Learn about how people from different cultures eat and celebrate, play and work, dress and have fun.

Mudflatters: Richmond's Pioneer History

Suitability: Grades 2 and up
Explore Richmond's diverse history of agriculture, fishing and community life through the eyes of its European settlers.
Find out what makes a sad iron "sad" and what a bog shoe looks like. Show photographs and watch a video of Richmond's past. Develop a "History of Richmond" using resources provided.

Musqueam - People of the River Grass in Richmond
Suitability: Grades 4 and up
Explore the history of the Musqueam in Richmond through artefacts, historical photographs, and historical documents.
Students will develop critical thinking skills
and have access to unique Aboriginal resources.

Knocking on Rich Man's Gate: Chinese

Immigration in Richmond
Suitability: Grades 4 and up
Experience Chinese immigration through this unique series of board games that takes students through the process of moving to Canada during the two waves of immigration.
Each student is assigned a character profile and document the challenges of the Head Tax and triumphs of achieving Canadian citizenship.

Urban Packers: An Interpretive Walk through Steveston
Explorateurs Urbains for French Immersion
Suitability: Grades 4 and up (Adaptable for Grades 2-3)
Rent out a set of backpacks and unpack the diverse layers of Steveston's history through its architecture, culture/community, economy, transportation, and geography/environment.
Students are divided into small groups, and each takes a different route through Steveston, recording their observations and analyzing change and continuity along the way. Students also learn how to navigate using a compass.

Immigration: The Canadian Experience
Suitability: Grades 5 and up
Uncover Canada's immigration history by exploring two suitcases filled with objects representing push-pull factors, books, DVDs, an oral history, and more! Discover the secret immigration story of the mysterious briefcase.

The Internment Years: The Japanese Canadians during World War II
Suitability: Grades 5 and up
Examine a tragic period of Richmond history: the internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War.
Watch Obachan's Garden, based on the forced relocation of the Murakami family away from Steveston. Develop critical thinking skills through analyzing historical photographs and documents. Handle objects related to life in an internment camp.
Japan Through the Senses
Suitability: Grades 5 and up
Take a journey through Japanese culture through sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Wear Japanese clothing. Touch Japanese objects. Compare Japanese culture with Canadian culture. Watch films. See Japanese writing.
