Gateway Theatre

Gateway TheatreThe Gateway Theatre is home to the Lower Mainland’s third largest theatre company. It is currently Richmond’s only live professional theatre.

The theatre, which first opened in 1984, is operated by the Richmond Gateway Theatre Society and its volunteer Board of Directors.  The City of Richmond owns and maintains the building and grounds which are located in Richmond’s city centre overlooking beautiful Minoru Park.
The Gateway is an easy 20-minute drive from Vancouver, Delta & Surrey, or 1 hour from Bellingham.

The cornerstones of our business are:

Gateway Theatre productions

  • Gateway Theatre Interior MainOn the 548 seat MainStage - 4 annual productions, mainly featuring the work of award-winning Canadian playwrights.
  • In 100 seat Studio B - 2 productions annually in The New Play Series, a celebration of the work of emerging Canadian writers of diverse cultures.

Gateway Academy for the Performing Arts

  • Offers year-round acting, musical theatre, and technical training classes for youth aged 8 – 18. Professional actors and choreographers instruct our classes, giving students practical, real world skills.

Rental Facilities

  • Professional and community groups rent the Gateway to stage their own shows. The MainStage and Studio B are available as performance spaces. Studio A and our beautiful lobbies are available for meetings and receptions. (See Facility Rentals for more information)

In addition to the production of live, professional theatre, Gateway is host to community performing arts groups and others who present a variety of events each year. Please visit the Gateway Theatre Society's web site for information about events and services.
