Business & Financial Services
Finance
Finance Division is responsible for the financial well-being of our City, through the provision of effective and reliable financial advice, services and information to Council, staff and the public, as well as through the support and fostering of a viable business community.
The Department collects almost $170 million annually from various sources including property taxes, utility payments, service charges, and senior government grants and oversees the expenditure of these funds through the annual budget process.
Financial functions also include purchasing goods and services, controlling inventory, accounts payable, payroll, investment (including land assets), business liaison and development, insurance, and the provision of property tax
information.
Economic Development
The role of the Economic Development Office is to encourage and facilitate economic expansion within the City of Richmond. At the same time, its goal is to provide employment opportunities for Richmond residents by facilitating development of a strong economy and business community. The Office acts as a catalyst to bring together people, ideas and capital, ultimately leading to economic development and diversification.
Business Liaison
The Business Liaison Office is the City’s key point of contact for our business-to-business relationships with the City’s clientele. This office works in partnership with the Economic Development Office to establish meaningful links with business and development leaders to further existing and potential business ventures through coordination of business solutions, and response to concerns raised by the business community. The Business Liaison Office also manages the Business Licence section.
Real Estate Services
The Real Estate Services Division, is responsible for handling the acquisition and disposition of land and real property for the City, negotiating rights of way required for various purposes, and providing information and advice on all these matters to staff, other agencies, and the public. The Division also administers the portfolio of leases held by the City (excluding residential properties, which are administered by the Facilities Management Division).
YVR Liaison
The division is also the official City liaison group for the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
