Councillor Linda Barnes

Councillor Linda Barnes Linda Barnes, who has been a Steveston resident since 1970 and raised two children in the community, was elected to Richmond City Council in 1999.  She is a retired Richmond School Board employee having worked as a Classroom Assistant for students with special needs; a Work Experience Assistant with employers and schools, and a Youth Support Worker with secondary level "youth at risk".

Linda is Chair of the Public Works and Transportation Committee.  She is a member of the Finance, General Purposes; and Planning Committee.  Linda is also the alternate to the Second Director  and second alternate to the First Director on the Metro Vancouver Board and the City's representative on the GVRD Labour Relations Bureau.

Linda is the Council representative to the following advisory committees,  organizations and community associations:  BC Aviation Council; the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee; the BC Healthy Communities Coalition Steering Committee; the Council/School Board Liaison Committee; the Richmond School Board's Career Options Committee; the Richmond Community Services Advisory Committee; the Richmond Public Art Commission; the Richmond Sister City Committee; the Thompson Community Association; the Steveston Harbour Authority (alternate); the Steveston Historical Society; and the Richmond Public Library Board.

Linda is a former president of Richmond School Board Employees Union (CUPE 716), and is also a member of the Ministry of Education and CUPE Task Force, which developed and now delivers workshops to BC Teaching Assistants.
