About City Council
The primary functions of City Council are: to establish administrative policy; to adopt bylaws governing matters which are delegated to local government through the Municipal Act and other Provincial statutes enacted for the protection of the public; and to levy taxes for these purposes.
City Council is also empowered to manage, acquire and dispose of City assets.
The day-to-day operation of the City is delegated by Council to the Chief Administrative Officer and City Staff.
A general election for Mayor and eight Councillors for the City of Richmond was last held on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
All are elected for three-year terms. The terms of office for the new Council commenced on December 1st, 2008.
