Expression of Interest – Seasonal Labourers
$23.72 per hour
The City of Richmond is recruiting for seasonal labourers to work Temporary Full-Time for Public Works Operations. Successful candidates will perform diversified manual work entailing physical effort and agility in performing semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks for one of a number of operational divisions such as Fleet & Environmental Services, Parks, Roads & Construction, Water Services, and Sewerage & Drainage. Work performance is inspected during work progress and at completion for workmanship and adherence to established standards and procedures.
Education and Experience
Successful applicants will have completed Grade 12. Experience in construction work, maintenance work or as a Labourer is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform a variety of construction and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work with others as well as understand and take direction from a Supervisor.
- Ability to carry out oral or written instructions.
- Ability to exercise some independent judgment and action in processing assignments.
- Ability to exert physical strength, and demonstrate stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual work.
- Ability to lift, carry and push weights in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs).
- Skill in the operation of a variety of power and hand tools used in the work.
- Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.
Licences, Certifications and Registrations
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia, with a clean drivers abstract.
Additional related qualifications such as Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s Licence, experience operating Heavy Equipment, Level 3 First Aid, Pesticide Applicators Licence, Traffic Control, Environmental Operators Certificate Program (EOCP) Water Distribution Level 1, or Sacramento Volume 1 Wastewater or Water Distribution Certification would be desirable.
Working Conditions and Effort
- Candidates must be able and willing to work in all weather conditions.
- Candidates must be able and willing to work around high traffic areas, around heavy equipment on construction/job sites and exposures to fumes from vehicle and equipment engines, fuels and asphalt.
